National Law Enforcement Week, celebrated each May, was established to recognize the country's law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.
The Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy holds a wreath ceremony during this week in memory of the fallen officers from the 52 participating agencies. At role call, a representative from the deceased officer's agency places a miniature U.S. flag on the wreath; taps is played after completion of the role call.
Lancaster's fallen officers are Dep. James Brent and Sgt. Donald C. Benson, Sr. |
